What makes you happy?

Have you ever truly reflected upon the endless possibilities that accompany that question?

New car? New house? Next promotion? More money? New designer shoes? New designer purse? Blah…blah…blah…insert whatever material objects that blow your hair back here…but c’mon…really? Let’s go deeper.

I’m mean sure, you can keep chasing the proverbial dream, waiting for some sort of ‘material acquisition happiness epiphany’ to appear, but the reality is…HAPPINESS IS AN INSIDE JOB.

I’ve spent the better part of my single mom life climbing the corporate ladder to 6 figure success, which is somehow supposed to prove my worth and achieve happiness. Which often meant 70 hour work weeks at multiple jobs, so that on top of all other expenses, I could pay my tuition and complete my degree part time, and still, first and foremost, find time to be a full time mom and not miss any of the extracurricular sports that make my son his incredible self.

Honestly, there were moments when I had absolutely no idea how I was going to accomplish everything let alone make ends meet, but somehow they always did.

Was it easy? Hell no. Did I struggle? Of course. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.

However, here’s what I would leave out, I would ditch the incessant desire to acquire the next item of…ahem…’perceived success’. IE. the brand new car, brand new house, designer labels etc.

Instead, I would have kept my modest, but amazing, first home, my second hand ‘paid in full’ car and I would have spent the money saved on experiencing life.

Nearly 2 decades ago, sporting my ‘new mom bod’, I wandered into my first Hot Yoga class because I heard it was a ‘great physical workout’ in a ‘super chill’ environment. At the time this sounded like a perfect option considering I had gained 50lbs in my pregnancy 😳, didn’t like the gym but still wanted a full body workout that would hopefully deal with some of my…ahem… ‘postpartum physique’ we’ll call it.

However, unbeknownst to me…I had just embarked upon a mind-body-spirit adventure of a lifetime, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Over the years, my yoga journey has taught me how to better connect with myself and the world around me with clarity and intention.
