My Yoga Journey

About 17 years ago, I embarked upon the journey of a lifetime. I stumbled across yoga as a way to shed the unwanted “post-partum 50” that accompanied my pregnancy.

Yes, I gained the equivalent of almost 1/2 my pre-pregnancy weight over the course of nine months.🤰

Initially my post-pregnancy wellness journey was solely focused on reclaiming my physical self. However, what I’ve discovered over the past 17 years is invaluable when it comes to total body wellness.

What is Holistic Wellness?

Holistic wellness is an approach to being healthy that looks at a person’s health in a holistic way. This considers their body, mind and spirit. Attention to all THREE is needed to stay balanced. Holistic medicine believes that each of these things work together. If someone has physical pain, their mind and spirit will suffer. If there is a spiritual void, they may get sick.

So often I hear people say that they don’t do yoga because they’re not flexible. Despite what Instagram might lead you to believe, Yoga has nothing to do with flexibility and everything to do with holistic wellness.

Yoga encourages you to honour your body, mind and spirit in the present moment. To let go of competition and judgement and to accept yourself as you are. Everyday will be different, on and off the mat. We must learn to quite our mind, let go of what no longer serves us, including our negative self talk, and persevere.

Yoga has helped me overcome tremendous insecurities. We moved around A LOT when I was younger. In fact, I attended 16 different schools growing up; and kids were usually pretty mean to the “new girl”. Especially the one that didn’t arrive adorned in brand name fashions.

My mom raised us on a shoestring budget, and quite frankly…I have absolutely no idea how she did it, HOWEVER…I want to make one thing VERY clear – I wouldn’t change a thing, nor would I trade it for a life of luxury. Our very modest upbringing gave me the exact tools and mindset required to pave my way to success.

So…as much as a very small part of me would love to call out every naysayer and bully that ever made me feel small, insecure and vulnerable, instead I wish to thank you. Thank you for making me the woman that I am today. Your unkind words have fuelled a fire within that will never be tamed. Oh and Karma…yes, I believe in Karma. 💜

We truly are capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit for and are often the master of our own limitation. I truly believe that our mindset ultimately determines our success in life.

If you truly want something, you must BE that which you wish to receive.

For Example: If you want to be physically fit, you must BE active and eat well. Yoga, like Life, is a journey…not a destination and every step of the way is either supported by, or detracted from, the choices we make. #choosewisely

What if…just for today…we focused on accomplishing our wildest dreams instead of dwelling on our perceived limitations? Knowing that our mindset and choices have so much power, what would you do?

I thought about flipping all the naysayers the bird in this picture, but I figured that wouldn’t be very zen of me. 🤣🙏🏻💜
