How to make the Ultimate DIY Anti-Aging Serum [For your Face]

How to make an all natural anti-aging facial serum.

If your skin is a sensitive as mine, you’re likely tired of spending a fortune on products that don’t work. My skin is pretty dry to begin with, so when I moved to Calgary 5 years ago, although I love the mountains, the climate really takes a toll on my skin.

Since I could not seem to find anything that didn’t irritate my skin or provide sufficient or lasting moisture, I decided to make my own.

When you start using essential oils to make your own skin care products, it’s important to note that very few can be applied to the skin “neat” – in other words, without diluting in a carrier oil first.

The amount of essential oils (EO) added to Carrier oil for a facial serum should not exceed 1%.

Therefore, I can add 14-20 drops total to 30ml of my carrier oil. If I am only blending with 15ml of carrier oil, I would add 7-10 drops total of my selected essential oils. Etc.

DIY TIP: Increase the life span of your DIY skin care products by using either amber or cobalt blue glass bottles like these ones. 🙂

1. Use an anti-aging carrier oil such as:

For my ultra moisturizing (anti-aging) facial serum, I blend 3 types of carrier oils in a 30ml glass bottle in the following quantity:

  • 7.5 ml – Hemp Seed Oil
  • 15 ml – Rosehip Seed Oil
  • 7.5 ml – Evening Primrose Oil

2. Combine with, top anti-aging essential oils such as:

  • 5 drops Frankincense EO
  • 5 drops Myrrh EO
  • 5 drops Neroli EO
  • 5 drops Sandalwood EO

3. OCD Side Note: For accuracy, I remove the plastic stoppers and use a glass pipette for each oil to measure out my drops.

It is important to note that the fragrance of the final serum will change over time. So if you don’t like it initially, I would recommend that you wait at least an hour. Many times I have been pleasantly surprised with how the oils interact with my own body chemistry over time.

As this viscosity of this serum is fairly thick, I use this as my night time skin rejuvenation.

It’s always best to patch test to ensure that you do not have an allergic reaction prior to applying all over your face and then finding out the hard way. 😳

As for the brand Essential Oils you select, you’ll want to ensure that they from are a high quality supplier. I typically obtain my oils from Pure Potent WOW, from British Columbia through my local Natural Food store or True Essence – a local Calgary supplier.

What about ingesting essential oils?

Happy Blending!! I hope that you love your new moisturizer.

On my next blog post, I will discuss the benefits of incorporating microneedling into your facial rejuvenation routine. 💜
